A ship carrying 55,000 metric tons of coal for Pakistan Steel has reached Port Qasim from Australia. According to Pakistan Steel spokesman the unloading of the coal has started to shift the imported coal to the Pakistan Steel raw material stockyard through 4.2 Km conveyer belt from Port Qasim Jetty.

He said that the Government is taking keen interest for the revival of PS and the procurement of raw materials has successfully been started by the PS management after receiving funds under the bailout package as the shortage of raw materials was a major cause of all problems faced by PS.

The management was solving this problem, and once the supply chain of raw materials was restored all problems would be resolved, he added. The current coal was procured from an Australian company through a long term contract with Pakistan Steel. Regarding iron ore availability PS spokesman said that the PS management had achieved success in the iron making process during the shortage of imported iron ore with the utilisation of local iron ore.

He said that about 0.1 Million tons of local iron ore from Balochistan had been utilised by PS in this financial year. On the other hand two contracts of imported iron ore were finalised and about 30000 metric Tons of iron ore would reach PS in the next 20 days. Many tenders for the procurement of iron ore were under process, after completion of all legal paperwork two contracts of more than 100000 Metric tons of imported iron ore would be finalised, he stated.-PR
